St. Stefan was first mentioned in chronicles in 1442 but St. Stefan fortress, called after an eponymous church, had been built on the island long before it. In the beginning of the 19th century the resort started becoming popular and by 1957 the whole island had turned into a hotel-city. Most of the buildings have its original look but their interiors are luxuriously and astonishingly beautiful decorated.

There are a great number of entertainment activities starting from swimming and sunbathing to renting a yacht, diving, going in for different kinds of sports and sight-seeing that is widely offered by different excursions.
